A flowchart is a type of diagram that represents an algorithm or process, showing the steps as boxes of various kinds, and their order by connecting them with arrows. This diagrammatic representation illustrates a solution to a given problem. Process operations are represented in these boxes, and arrows; rather, they are implied by the sequencing of operations. Flowcharts are used in analyzing, designing, documenting or managing a process or program in various fields.

Android

Android

Android  is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones andtablet computers. Initially developed by Android, Inc., which Google backed financially and later bought in 2005,] Android was unveiled in 2007 along with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance: a consortium of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. The first Android-powered phone was sold in October 2008.
Android is open source and Google releases the code under the Apache License. This open-source code and permissive licensing allows the software to be freely modified and distributed by device manufacturers, wireless carriers and enthusiast developers. Additionally, Android has a large community of developers writing applications ("apps") that extend the functionality of devices, written primarily in a customized version of the Javaprogramming language. In October 2012, there were approximately 700,000 apps available for Android, and the estimated number of applications downloaded from Google Play, Android's primary app store, was 25 billion. A developer survey conducted in April–May 2013 found that Android is the most popular platform for developers, used by 71% of the mobile developer population.
These factors have contributed towards making Android the world's most widely used smartphone platform.overtaking Symbian in the fourth quarter of 2010, and the software of choice for technology companies who require a low-cost, customizable, lightweight operating system for high tech devices without developing one from scratch. As a result, despite being primarily designed for phones and tablets, it has seen additional applications on televisions, games consolesdigital cameras and other electronics. Android's open nature has further encouraged a large community of developers and enthusiasts to use the open-source code as a foundation for community-driven projects, which add new features for advanced users or bring Android to devices which were officially released running other operating systems.
Android's share of the global smartphone market, led by Samsung products, was 64% in March 2013.In July 2013 there were 11,868 different models of Android device, scores of screen sizes and eight OS versions simultaneously in use. The operating system's success has made it a target for patent litigation as part of the so-called "smartphone wars" between technology companies. As of May 2013, a total of 900 million Android devices have been activated and 48 billion apps have been installed from the Google Play store.

"Steve" Jobs

Steven Paul "SteveJobs

Shoulder-high portrait of smiling man in his fifties wearing a black turtle neck shirt with a day-old beard holding a phone facing the viewer in his left hand

was an American entrepreneur, marketer, and inventor, who was the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. Through Apple, he is widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution and for his influential career in the computer and consumer electronics fields, transforming "one industry after another, from computers and smartphones to music and movies".Jobs also co-founded and served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, when Disney acquired Pixar. Jobs was among the first to see the commercial potential of Xerox PARC's mouse-driven graphical user interface, which led to the creation of the Apple Lisa and, one year later, the Macintosh. He also played a role in introducing the LaserWriter, one of the first widely available laser printers, to the market.
After a power struggle with the board of directors in 1985, Jobs left Apple and founded NeXT, a computer platform development company specializing in the higher-education and business markets. In 1986, he acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm, which was spun off as Pixar. He was credited in Toy Story(1995) as an executive producer. He served as CEO and majority shareholder until Disney's purchase of Pixar in 2006. In 1996, after Apple had failed to deliver its operating system, CoplandGil Amelio turned to NeXT Computer, and the NeXTSTEP platform became the foundation for the Mac OS X. Jobs returned to Apple as an advisor, and took control of the company as an interim CEO. Jobs brought Apple from near bankruptcy to profitability by 1998.
As the new CEO of the company, Jobs oversaw the development of the iMaciTunesiPodiPhone, and iPad, and on the services side, the company's Apple Retail StoresiTunes Store and the App Store. The success of these products and services provided several years of stable financial returns, and propelled Apple to become the world's most valuable publicly traded company in 2011.[21] The reinvigoration of the company is regarded by many commentators as one of the greatest turnarounds in business history.
In 2003, Jobs was diagnosed with a pancreas neuroendocrine tumor. Though it was initially treated, he reported a hormone imbalance, underwent a liver transplant in 2009, and appeared progressively thinner as his health declined. On medical leave for most of 2011, Jobs resigned in August that year, and was elected Chairman of the Board. He died of respiratory arrest related to his tumor on October 5, 2011.
Jobs received a number of honors and public recognition for his influence in the technology and music industries. He has been referred to as "legendary", a "futurist" or simply "visionary", and has been described as the "Father of the Digital Revolution", a "master of innovation", "the master evangelist of the digital age" and a "design perfectionist".

Types of LAN Network

Types of LAN Network

  1. The Basic LAN

    • An Ethernet jack looks like a phone jack, but wider.
The basic type of LAN is connected by Ethernet cables to a router or hub (modern routers usually integrate hubs). A router allows all computers connected to it to access a high-speed modem connected to the router. Each computer has an IP (Internet Protocol) address, but a computer on the other side of the Internet will only see the router's IP address. This, and a router's built-in firewall, creates a safer environment for accessing the Internet. (Firewalls are used to filter out unauthorized access to the network.)

    Wired LAN Speeds and Connections

    • A wired connection has two common connection standards: 100BASE-T and 1000BASE-T. The first one transfers data at up to 100 megabits per second (Mb/s), and the second one transmits at 1000 Mb/s or 1 gigabit per second (Gb/s). The second one is also known as Gigabit Ethernet. Most modern motherboards integrate this into their circuitry, rather than requiring the user to obtain an Ethernet card. Ethernet cables can run hundreds of feet without losing signal quality.

    Wireless LAN

    • Wireless routers are handy for mobile devices.
Another standard in the mix is wireless Ethernet. This allows you to cut out cables altogether. You can transmit data through walls, floors and ceilings without having to drill holes. It is handier for people who use laptops and other mobile devices, since they can just turn on the device and have access to the network without plugging everything in. However, the transfer speeds are not as fast. The fastest protocol, 802.11n, moves data at up to 300 Mb/s. Wireless Ethernet is also susceptible to interference from devices such as a microwave or cordless phone.

    Wireless Encryption

    • Furthermore, wireless Ethernet also requires encryption. Without it, anyone close enough to the wireless router can capture and read all the data going back and forth. For this reason, a wireless Ethernet user will want to use WPA2 encryption. Unfortunately, it is possible to break into a WPA2 network by using a brute force attack. This method uses software that sends a constant stream of password guessing to the router until it finds the right one. A wireless network administrator should use a password that is difficult to guess.

    Corporate LANs

    • Wired LAN connections are capable of even higher speeds, although these are usually limited to corporate environments. 10 Gigabit Ethernet enters the picture here, as does Fibre Channel, which is popular in Hollywood's digital post-production facilities dealing with editing and special effects.

domain name

 domain name

domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control on the Internet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS). Any name registered in the DNS is a domain name.
Domain names are used in various networking contexts and application-specific naming and addressing purposes. In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) resource, such as a personal computer used to access the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site itself or any other service communicated via the Internet.
Domain names are organized in subordinate levels (subdomains) of the DNS root domain, which is nameless. The first-level set of domain names are the top-level domains (TLDs), including the generic top-level domains (gTLDs), such as the prominent domains cominfonet and org, and the country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). Below these top-level domains in the DNS hierarchy are the second-level and third-level domain names that are typically open for reservation by end-users who wish to connect local area networks to the Internet, create other publicly accessible Internet resources or run web sites. The registration of these domain names is usually administered by domain name registrars who sell their services to the public.
fully qualified domain name (FQDN) is a domain name that is completely specified in the hierarchy of the DNS, having no omitted parts.
Domain names are usually written in lowercase, although labels in the Domain Name System are case-insensitive.

Facebook Opens First Data Center in Prineville, Oregon

          - Open Compute Technology Makes Data Center One of the Most Efficient in US -

Prineville, Oregon (April 15, 2011) – Facebook leaders joined state and local elected officials in Prineville, Oregon today to officially open the company’s first custom-built data center. The Prineville data center features leading energy-efficient technology, which Facebook recently shared with the industry as part of the Open Compute Project.

“This data center is built for energy efficiency and is a milestone for Facebook,” said Tom Furlong, director of site operations at Facebook. “The new computing capacity will enable us to offer great new social experiences, while setting new standards for environmental responsibility in data center design and operations.”

Furlong also thanked local and state officials for their support of the project. “We went from bare ground to serving users in 15 months,” said Furlong. “That doesn’t happen without the support of city, county and state leaders who have been so helpful in this first phase of the project.”

The Facebook Prineville Data Center, which sits on a 120-acre parcel, is being built in two phases. The first half of the building, approximately 150,000 square feet, is complete. The second half, again approximately 150,000 square feet, will be completed at the end of 2011 and will have servers installed in line with demand.

The Data Center is expected to become LEED gold certified, and includes features such as rainwater reclamation, a solar energy installation for providing electricity to the office areas and reuse of heat created by the servers to heat office space.

In addition, Facebook pioneered several new technologies in the design and operation of the data center, including: New energy efficient server designs; specialized software to optimize server capacity; and a low-energy evaporative cooling system, which make use of the low humidity climate of Central Oregon’s high desert setting to eliminate traditional air conditioners. Overall, the data center uses 38 percent less energy to do the same work as Facebook's exiting facilities.

“I am proud to welcome Facebook as the newest member of Oregon’s innovative technology community,” said Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber. “Facebook will be great addition to the community of Central Oregon and will no doubt serve as a stable economic presence for years to come.”

Over the course of the project, more than 1,300 people have worked on the site – an average of 250 workers a day. When completed, Facebook has committed to hire 35 full-time employees to run and maintain the data center.

“Facebook has brought diversity to the job market at a time when unemployment has ranged from 17-20%,” said Prineville Mayor Betty Roppe. “During the past year Prineville has seen a loss of nearly 1,000 in population according to the US Census.  Facebook’s arrival has opened the market for other business recruitment. Their arrival has given the community a shot of OPTIMISM.”

Facebook has also committed to a $105,000 annual local grant program. To follow the progress of the Facebook Prineville Data Center, go to www.facebook.com/prinevilledatacenter. For more information on the Open Compute Project, go to http://opencompute.org.

home network

                                            home network

A home network or home area network (HAN) is a residential local area network (LAN) for communication between digital devices typically deployed in the home, usually a small number of personal computers and accessories, such as printers and mobile computing devices. An important function is the sharing of Internet access, often a broadband service provisioned by fiber-to-the-home or via Cable Internet access, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or mobile broadband by Internet service providers (ISPs). If an ISP only provides one IP address, a router including network address translation (NAT), proxy server software and typically a network firewall, allows several computers to share the external IP address. The router function may be assumed by a PC with several network interfaces, but a dedicated router device is more common, often including a wireless accesspoint
, providing WiFi access.

computer network

computer network

A computer network (or data network) is a telecommunications network that allows computers to exchange data. The physical connection between networked computing devices is established using either cable media or wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet.
Network devices that originate, route and terminate the data are called network nodes. Nodes can include hosts such as servers and personal computers, as well as networking hardware. Two devices are said to be networked when a process in one device is able to exchange information with a process in another device.
Computer networks support applications such as access to the World Wide Web, shared use of application and storage servers, printers, and fax machines, and use of email and instant messaging applications. The remainder of this article discusses local area network technologies and classifies them according to the following characteristics: the physical media used to transmit signals, the communications protocols used to organize network traffic, along with the network's size, its topology and its organizational intent.
